ERRATUM I N T E R M O L E C U L A R FORCES IN TWO DIMENSIONAL SYSTEMS *) R. C. L. B O S W O R T H and E. K. R I D E A L Owing to an unfortunate series of circumstances, it was found impossible to give adequate revision to the above paper. In consequence we wish to take the opportunity, of withdrawing certain sections. These sections include pp. 931 line 8 to p. 932 line 26 where an a t t e m p t h as been made to represent the energy levels of fixed and migratory adatoms on a surface. Reference was made to some work on the adsorption of nitrogen, carried out b y V a n C 1 e a v e under R o b e r t s' direction, utilising the latter's method of investigation b y means of changes in the accommodation coefficient of a wire. Amongst other hypotheses which R o b e r t s had under consideration to account for the results of these experiments was the one mentioned, which involved the assumption of the mobility of the nitrogen film. He has always realised t ha t further experiments, which he is about to carry out, are necessary to make a decision b e t w e e n these hypotheses and the publication of this unsubstantiated conclusion mentioned to one of us (R.C.L.B) b y V a n C I e a v e before leaving this country, was unfortunately made without R ob e r t s' knowledge. Again on p. 935 the latent heat equation is here applied to surface films on which the surface concentration is maintained constant as the temperature is varied, and thus Inp and --a/kT should be replaced b y Inpe and --~o/RT respectively, and further, the reflection coefficient r is a function both of 0 and ~ the fraction of the adsorbed atoms th at are mobLle; and should be written r0, 4.
