High-strength rope

Method of preparing fibrous concrete Dearlove, W.E. and Engelking, F.S.

Gladenbeck, J. and Miiller, G. (Felten & Guilleaume Carlswerk AG) US Pat 4 022 010 (10 May 1977) A high strength rope consisting of an elastic core made of a synthetic plastics material around which are bundles of filaments of high tensile strength aromatic polyamide.

(Caterpillar Tractor Co) US Pat 4 023 706 (17May 1977) A method of mixing fibre-reinforced concrete without allowing the formation of fibre balls within the cement.

Steel cord belt reinforced transmission belt Abatemarco, M.R. US Pat 4 022 071

Beloy, F.J. (Caterpillar Tractor Co) US Pat 4 023 779 (17 May 1977) The system includes the facility to separate the individual fibres.

Fibrous concrete mixing system

(lOMay

1977)

Fibrous concrete batch forming system Groth, S.L. (Caterpillar Tractor Co) US Pat 4 022 439 (10 May 1977) The system is able to separate the fibrous reinforcement into balls of fibre and individual fibres; the individual fibres are then fed into the concrete as the reinforcement.

Composite blade employing biased layup Stanley, M.W. (General Electric Company) US Pat 4 022 54 7 (10 May 1977) The blade, for use in a fluid flow machine, consists of filament laminates bonded together; the filament laminates have an axis of symmetry which is skewed from the blade longitudinal axis.

Method for sealing composites against moisture and articles made thereby Kaye, S. (General Dynamics Corporation) US Pat 4 022 585 (10 May 1977) The moisture impervious composite structure comprises fibres embedded in a synthetic resin matrix covering the surface of which there is an adherent metallic undercoating. This undercoat is covered with a uniform, non-porous, moisture impervious fusible metal top coat. The top coat is solidified in place from a fused state over the undercoat and is free of open paths between its surfaces.

Internally reinforced load carrying member Vargo, W.R. US Pat 4 023 683 (17 May 1977j A structural member for supporting heavy loads comprising a hollow rigid member and a retiforcing web across the interior of the member.

Plastic to metal bonding method Gregornik, N.W. and Pickering, D.R. (Honeywell Inc) US Pat 4 024 008 (17May 1977) The method is used to bond thermoplastic resins to metals.

Reinforcing composition for mineral structures Yamaguchi, T., Ono, T., Ho&i, H., Hirakawa, M. and Watanabe, I. (Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Incorporated) US Pat4024098(17May1977) A composition is described for impregnating and reinforcing mineral masses by in situ polymerization; the composition is stable against polym+zation until it comes into contact with the mineral mass.

Process for producing carbon fibers having excellent properties Kishimoto, S. and Okazaki, S. (Japan Exlan Company Limited) US Pat 4 024 227(17May 1977) A process for producing a carbon fibre by impregnating a water-swollen acrylonitrile fibre with O.OS-5%, of at least one compound represented by the general formulae R1 NH2 or (R2R$IR&)+Xwhere R1, Rz, RJ, R4, R5 are hydrocarbons and X- is a monovalent anion. The fibre is then heat-treated, thermally stabilised by heating under tension in an oxidising atmosphere, and then carbonized or carbonized and grapbitized in a non-oxidising atmosphere at a temperature above 800°C.

Method for producing a resin rich epoxy prepreg and laminate Alpaugh, W.A. and Summa, W.J. (International Business Machines Corporation) US Pat 4 024 305 (17 May 1977) A method for making a resin rich epoxy prepreg suitable for chemical roughening

and additive plating. The method comprises impregnating a glass fabric with a first epoxy resin; curing it to 8045% of complete cure; coating the impregnated fabric with a second epoxy resin; and then curing the coating of second resin to 80-85% of complete cure.

Product reinforcing fabric and two-component weft yam useful therein Barron, E.R. (E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company) US Pat 4 024 895 (24 May 1977) A reinforcing fabric is described which consists of a web of tyre cords kept in position by weft yams. The weft yarn comprises a cotton sheath twisted about a core of spin-oriented polyester filaments.

Lower sidewall reinforcement for pneumatic tires PoquC, D.J. (Uniroyal A.G.) US Pat 4 024 901(24 May 1977) The pneumatic tyre comprises first and second bead units, and a radially extending carcass ply. The tyre is reinforced with radially extending square-woven fabric.

Reinforced bottle Uhlig, A.R. (Owens-Illinois Inc) US Pat 4 024 975 (24 May 1977) The thermoplastics bottle is reinforced with closely spaced plastics ribs on the inside of the bottle only.

Apparatus for continuously manufacturing an elongated reinforced shaped article Sagane, N., Morimoto, T. and Okagawa, F. (Sekisui Kagaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha) US Pat 4 025 257 (24 May 1977) An apparatus is described for continuously manufacturing an elongated shaped article of a foamed resin reinforced by continuous and parallel tibres.

Reinforced laminates Jonds, W. (Messerschmitt-BolkowBlohm GmbH) US Pat 4 025 675 (24 May 1977) The laminate comprises two continuous spaced sheets of fibre-reinforced synthetic resin; the fibres in each sheet are oriented to provide reinforcement in two direction in stress. There is a supporting core of intersecting rib elements between the two sheets. The rib elements are made from roving bundles impregnated with synthetic resin.
