INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONCRETE SLABS: MATERIALS, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND FINISHING
Defects commonly occur in concrete floor slabs and failures or near-failures are not infrequent in many countries around the world. Despite the growth of international co-operation in many fields of endeavour, there remains a tendency to insularity amongst engineers. While there should be no attempt to eliminate the differences which exist in design and construction practice, a more widespread understanding of the different methods employed should benefit the construction industry as a whole. The Civil Engineering Department of the University of Dundee is arranging a three day Conference, to be held from 3rd to 5th April, 1979, to provide a forum for the international exchange of information and ideas relating to research and practice in the design and construction of concrete slabs. It is envisaged that the conference will cover all aspects of slab construction, for example: (i) concrete and its constituent materials; (ii) structural design; (iii) concrete mixing and transportation; (iv) construction techniques; (v) surface finishing and (vi) failures, preventative measures and remedial treatments. Further details of the Conference, and the accompanying exhibition, are available from Dr R. K. Dhir, Department of Civil Engineering, The University, Dundee, DD1 4HN, Scotland.
