Thursday, March 25, 1999 3:00 pm-5:00 pm PART \.-7 (C507) HOW TO PUT A QUAllTY IMPROVEMENT AND CREDENTIALS PROGRAM TO WORK FOR YOU
3:00 pm Principles of Quality Improvement Curtis W. Bakal, MD Curtis Lewis, MD David Sacks, MD In the current practice environment, interventional radiologists face continued challenges in maintaining referral patterns and fighting predatory incursions from competing, and often less well trained, specialists. Developing a coherent program for quality improvement (QI) and procedure specific credentialing is becoming an essential strategy for many practices in fighting such predatory behavior; conversely, not developing such a program may prove catastrophic. In addition to protecting referral patterns, QI guidelines can be utilized to maintain high quality patient care and when requesting personnel and equipment resources. Registrants will learn how to set up a quality improvement and credentials program and apply published guidelines to their practice environment. Case studies from real practice situations will be presented, and the nuts and bolts of developing a QI program will be discussed. Registrants will be encouraged to discuss problems, strategies, and solutions encountered in their practices.
