Introduction: Monetary policy and financial markets This issue contains papers from a research conference sponsored by the Swiss National Bank, the University of Rochester and the Studienzentrum Gerzensee. which was held in Gerzensee, Switzerland on 17-18 October 1996. This research conference brought together academic and central bank economists from around the world to discuss issues of central importance for monetary policy. The editors thank the Swiss National Bank for its support of this event.
