Guest Editorial Introduction to the International Perspectives Column: Electronic Repositories in India by Rowena Cullen
T
he International Perspectives column in this issue contains two short papers reporting the state of electronic repositories in India. While India is reported as likely to become the world's 3rd largest economy, partly based on its high successful IT industry, those outside the country often know little about the development of electronic systems and resources supporting academic and research activities within the country.
The two papers included in this column, The Development of an Indian Electronic Theses and Dissertations Repository by N.K. Sheeja, and An Evaluation of Digital Libraries and Institutional Repositories in India, by Drs. Tripathi and Jeevan highlight some of the investment being made in developing an electronic research infrastructure to strengthen India's knowledge economy as well its IT industry.
