INVOMEC for very large scale education In 1982 the Flemish government set out to build a nation-wide integrated environment for the education and training of electronic designers with special emphasis on microelectronics. This network is managed by INVOMEC and brings together three universities and thirteen technical colleges. For reliable operation INVOMEC houses linked up two VAX-11/750 computers through DEC-Net. Both can be reached from the universities and colleges through 24 ports. Then at each college a minimum configuration is placed of a Tektronix 4107 colour graphic terminal with tablet, hardcopy unit and alphanumeric display. This minimum configuration is often extended on local initiative. A larger configuration is located at the universities; it comprises a VAX-11/750 and several graphic stations. This infrastructure is operational since October 1984 and is probably unique of its kind in Europe. From September 1985 INVOMEC is part of IMEC. This extends the opportun-‘ ities within INVOMEC with fast m-house prototyping. All this serves not only educational institutions, but appears to serve also smaller and larger industries.
