Objectives are highlighting the organophosphorus intoxication therapeutic efficacy of galantamine, and reversible AchE inhibitor, using biotechnology extract of wild daffodil and optimization of the therapeutic response to galantamine by intranasal administration. We used five rabbits study groups (5 animals/group) treated as follows: Group 1-control; Group 2-paraoxon (0.716 mg/kg intraperitoneally); Group 3-pyridostigmine (8 mg/kg orally), paraoxon (0.716 mg/kg) and atropine (17.5 mg/kg intramuscular); Group 4-galantamine (8 mg/kg/orally), followed by the treatment regimen administred group 3; Group 5-galantamine (8 mg/kg intranasally) and the treatment regimen administred group 4. 15, 30, 60 min after therapy, whole blood samples were collected for acetylcholinesterase activity spectrophotometric measurements. The inhibited acetylcholinesterase, the therapy response time, the protection index were statistically analysed (One way Anova). The degree of achetylcholinesterase inhibition Group 2: 82 ± 3.2%; Group 3: 52 ± 2.7%; Group 4: 35 ± 1.96%; Group 5: 24 ± 1.62%. Peak therapeutic response: Lot 3: 40 ± 3.15 min (p = 0.0007); Lot 4: 28 ± 1.05 min (p = 0.0009); Lot 5: 16 ± 1.42 min (p = 0.0004). Protection index: Lot 3: 1.25 ± 0.03; Lot 4: 1.75 ± 0.02; Lot 5: 1.95 ± 0.01. Galantamine administered orally is more effective than pyridostigmine, considered as the reference preventive antidote in neurotoxic organophosphorus poisoning. Intranasal administration of galantamine is more effective than oral. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2015.06.283 Ionic liquids antifungals: Design and biological activity Jakub Suchodolski 1 , Joanna Feder Kubis 2 , Anna Krasowska 1,∗

the presence of optically active menthol. Hydrophilic ILs were tested as anti-Candida compounds. The range of MIC values was 2.9–3.1 mg/l. 25 M ILs dislodged 30–70% of biofilm and 10 M ILs completely inhibited filamentation. To investigate the mode of antifungal action of ILs, the leakage of compounds absorbing at 280 nm, along with propidium iodide uptake was measured. ILs permeabilized membranes of both forms of Candida: yeast and hyphae. In addition, Calcofluor White staining revealed disruption of cell wall integrity after ILs treatment. Our studies identify novel fungal inhibitors promising for mycoses treatment. The study was carried out on 54 dogs, aged between 2.5 and 16 years, diagnosed with chronic renal failure. All dogs had serum creatinine concentration higher then 2.0 mg/dl at two successive measurements performed at 2–3 weeks interval. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and mean blood pressure (MBP) were measured by oscillometric method, with a device designed for veterinary use. The blood pressure measurements were performed on the left thoracic limb, with the dogs in ventral recumbency. In this study, arterial hypertension was defined as SBP > 150 mmHg and/or DBP > 95 mmHg. The mean SBP, DBP and MBP values were 150.5 ± 19.1 mmHg, 98 ± 17.5 mmHg and 115.1 ± 17.2 mmHg, respectively. Overall, the prevalence of arterial hypertension was 59%. All dogs with systemic arterial hypertension had either both systolic and diastolic hypertension (87.5%) or isolated diastolic hypertension (12.5%). None of the dogs with renal failure had isolated systolic hypertension. According to the degree of risk of target-organ damage, the severity of arterial hypertension was mild, moderate and severe in 14/54 (25.9%), 15/54 (27.7%) and 3/54 (5.5%) cases, respectively.

[email protected] (A. Krasowska). Ionic liquids (ILs) are organic, environmentally friendly compounds, which are solely made of ions. ILs show potential as new disinfectants because of their high antimicrobial activity against different microorganisms. Candida species are a part of human microflora in healthy humans but under certain conditions, Candida may cause a wide variety of infections on mucosal surfaces as well as bloodstream infections, which is known as candidaemia. A series of four ammonium chlorides ILs have been synthesized and characterized. These chlorides contain natural terpene component: (1R, 2S, 5R)-(−)-menthol obtained from various varieties of mint (Menthae L.). These salts belong to chiral ionic liquids (CILs). The chirality resides in the cation and is associated with
