U n d e r t h e i n f l u e n c e of a d i r e c t electric c u r r e n t , ionic i m p u r i t i e s from t h e f e e d w a t e r a r e t r a n s p o r t e d t h r o u g h t h e selective m e m b r a n e s v i a t h e resin beads producing a purified water stream. The electric field m a i n t a i n s t h e r e s i n s in a h i g h l y regenerated state, making chemical reactivation unnecessary. Elga claims that the ADEPT process removed v i r t u a l l y all t h e i n o r g a n i c i o n s f o u n d in t h e f l o o d w a t e r p r o d u c i n g p u r i f i e d w a t e r w i t h a n a v e r a g e r e s i s t i v i t y of 15 M f l - c m a t 25°C a n d t y p i c a l l y l e s s t h e n 2 0 p p b TOC.
