PATENTS Upper seal for a horizontal side-moving door Applicant: Rite-Hite Holding Corp, USA This invention concerns a seal for a horizontal side-moving door. A horizontal sidemoving door with a side-winding or horizontally translating curtain includes an upper seal that is composed of an upper edge of the curtain which is sliding within a groove of a seal guide. To protect the door in the event of an impact, at least a portion of the curtain’s upper edge can be pulled out of the groove. To avoid damage in certain situations, the seal guide might also deflect forces resiliently. During normal operation, the curtain’s upper edge is deflected in response to air pressure against either side of the door. In some examples, the seal guide has a uniform cross-section, which makes it easy to manufacture using a conventional plastic extrusion process. Patent number: WO/2010/101838 Inventors: D. Iris labyrinth seal assembly Applicant: Starrotor Corp, USA An iris labyrinth seal for reducing fluid leakage around a rotating shaft or a circular machine component is detailed by this patent. This is essentially a segmented labyrinth seal. The seal components are restrained on a backing plate and are energised by an actuator, such as a garter spring, to make contact with the shaft. The iris seal element may include a material, for example, graphite, metal, plastic or ceramic, that may be sacrificial, friable, machinable, ‘abradable’, or crushable upon a sliding interaction with a portion of the shaft. ment and external mechanical forces that are exerted on pipes. The gasket has an O-shaped body, including an inner diameter and an outer diameter. It also may include at least one gasket-retaining bar, attached to the body. This prevents the gasket from being displaced while the spigot is being inserted into the gasket. It also may include at least one restraining device attached to the body. This device has at least one edge that extends beyond the inner diameter of the body of the gasket to engage the spigot. ble the valve. The secondary sealing member also has a wall that is adapted to engage the gate, creating a seal, and an aperture that extends through the wall. An inlet channel is aligned with the aperture of the secondary sealing member. The inlet channel is configured to provide a lubricating fluid through the aperture of the secondary sealing member – to the gate. A dam at least partially surrounds an opening to the aperture. Turbo-machine shaft seal Gate valve with lubricated secondary seal Applicant: Tyco Valves & Control Lp, USA The secondary seal described by this patent acts to prevent process media – which may seep through the primary sleeves – from leaking around the gate or towards the actuator end of the valve. To promote cohesive sliding of the gate during operation, a lubricating fluid is applied to grooves within the secondary seal and to the gate, as the gate traverses through the secondary seal. However, once this lubricant is depleted, the secondary seal has to be removed from the valve in order to provide additional lubricant. This invention concerns an apparatus for providing lubricant to a secondary seal of a process valve LQVLWX without the need to disassemble and reassem-

Applicant: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, Germany This patent provides details of a dry gas seal for a turbo-machine. It is designed to avoid ignition hazards. The process side (3) is sealed by the dual shaft seals (7, 13, 17). Between the atmosphere seal (17) and the process seals is a ventilation chamber (22) which runs around the shaft (1) of the turbomachine. The fittings in the outlet (24) are dimensioned so that the ventilation chamber (22) functions as a flame barrier preventing ignition of the leakage at the inlet (23), and/ or ensuring that leakage in the ventilation chamber (22) is not ignitable.
