Letter from the Editor

ISNI Dale E. McFarlin Lectureship Dear Reader, I received a letter last week from Prof. Jack Antel, Montreal, Canada proposing that the ISNI establish a lectureship in the name of Dale McFarlin. I consider this is a splendid suggestion and take Editorial Prerogative in seconding the proposal and setting it in motion. The lectureship will necessitate the creation of a special fund to cover the expenses of such a speaker to attend and deliver the Dale E. McFarlin Memorial Lecture at future ISNI International Congresses. A special committee will be set up to consider nominations from the membership-at-large. Persons wishing to make contributions (members and non-members) to this fund should send to this office personal cheques or international money orders made out to the “International Congress of Neuroimmunology” and marked in the lower left corner “Dale McFarlin Fund”. Whether sufficient funds will be generated in time to elect a speaker for the IVth

ISNI Congress in Amsterdam (October, 1994) is yet to be determined. In any case, it might not be appropriate (or necessary) since Prof. Lucas and his Programme Committee have already planned to have an entire special session in Dale’s name, but future congresses would presumably reserve a place for such a lecture on the programme. Since Dale was an accomplished investigator in many areas of Neuroimmunology (clinical, basic, molecular, immunogenetics, muscle, viruses, multiple sclerosis), we should have no difficulty in identifying good speakers and varying the lecture topic from Congress to Congress. Nominations can be submitted to my office at any time. Please send your contributions to the office of the Editor-in-Chief. Thank you.
