Game Changer Information Game Changer Category: General Derm Game Changer Title: Game Changer: Telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans (TMEP): A form of cutaneous mastocytosis with potential systemic involvement Game Changer Author: Adam J. Friedman, MD Game Changer: • TMEP is a clinically inoccuous and histopathologically vanilla condition that is often written off as a banal form of cutaneous mastocytosis with minimal evidence to support this claim. • Investigators demonstrated that systemic disease may be much more likely then previously anticipated, therefore warranting further investigation when we see these patients. • The take home - low mast cell burden in the skin may not corrlate with systemic involvement • Original authors: Severino M, Chandesris MO, Barete S, Tournier E, Sans B, Laurent C, Apoil PA, Lamant L, Mailhol C, Laroche M, Fraitag S, Hanssens K, Dubreuil P, Hermine O, Paul C, Bulai Livideanu C. Original Article Title: Telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans (TMEP): A form of cutaneous mastocytosis with potential systemic involvement. Original Capsule Summary: • There is limited information on systemic involvement in telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans, a form of cutaneous mastocytosis. • Telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans accounted for 14% of adult patients with cutaneous mastocytosis at 2 referral centers for mastocytosis. Systemic mastocytosis was present in 47% of these patients. • Although selection bias may have affected our analysis, evaluation for systemic involvement should be undertaken in patients with telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans.
