JAMDA Improves Impact Factor John E. Morley, MB, BCh
Citation indexing is a widely recognized method of judging the relevance of publications.1–5 The most widely used citation index is the Impact Factor. This is the number of citations in the current year to articles published in the Table 1.

The full list of Impact Factors for journals of geriatrics and gerontology in 2009 is given in Table 1.6 To give our readers a concept of the articles that are having the most impact, our editorial office has created tables for 2007, 2008, and 2009 of the articles with the most citations (Tables 2–4). The high impact of the Journal highlights the importance that nursing home medicine is assuming. Clearly,

long-term care is a major growth area as the boomers continue to age. The success of the Journal so far is a result of the excellent articles received and the hard work of our editorial board. We believe that over the next few years we will see an even greater interest in long-term care. This is a very important area for future research and the American Medical Directors Association is excited about the increased recognition of the importance of research in this area.
