Idex Corp adds Phantom Controls to its firefighting platform

I

dex Corp has acquired the intellectual property assets of Phantom Controls, the developer of the SAM (Scene Apparatus Manager) system. SAM is a fully automated fire pump. The system controls the entire pumping process and will alert the operator to any changes or conditions to the pumping system. As a result, the operator can focus on the crew and not the operation of the fire pump’s components. The acquisition of Phantom brings together the water-flow expertise of Idex’s Hale Products, Akron Brass and Class 1 Electronics brands and the operational capabilities and innovative pump operation of SAM. Located in St Louis, Missouri, Phantom Controls will operate within the Idex Fire & Safety/Diversified segment. “Our mission is to provide trusted solutions that improve lives,” said Andy Silvernail, Idex chairman and CEO. “The acquisition of Phantom Controls is an excellent fit within our fire and safety group creating new opportunities to accelerate our growth strategy.” For further information, visit www.idexcorp.com and www.phantomcontrols.com

Blackmer celebrates 115 years in pumps

B

lackmer, part of PSG, a Dover company, is celebrating its 115th anniversary in 2018. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, USAheadquartered company specialises in positive displacement, regenerative turbine and centrifugal pumps, and reciprocating compressor technologies. Blackmer started in 1899 with Robert Blackmer working to develop a more reliable, efficient alternative to rotary gear pumps. That year, he created a new rotary, self-compensating pumping principle that would become the predecessor to today’s sliding vane pumps. In 1903, a few years after the invention of the new positive displacement rotary vane pump, Robert Blackmer founded the Blackmer Pump, Power and Manufacturing Co in Petoskey, Michigan, where the company remained until 1925 when it relocated to Grand Rapids.

Blackmer says that the 115-year milestone is a tribute to its people, partners and products. “Celebrating 115 years in business is a testament to the dedication shown by both our employees and channel partners,” said Blackmer general manager Bob Lauson.
