Magnetic separator saves time US-based Eriez Magnetics has recently introduced a powerful radial-field magnet for the separation and removal of tramp iron from dry, free-flowing materials. As material enters the stainless steel housing, it is distributed by a stainless steel cone and passed in close proximity to the new magnetic RF cartridge. The ferrous contamination is attracted and held by the magnet while the separated product continues past the magnet and out of the housing. The ferrous contamination remains on the magnet until the cartridge is removed and cleaned. According to Eriez, cleaning and maintenance of the RF Cartridge is very simple; as unlike other inline magnets, Eriez’ RF Cartridge has a hinged centre section which swings out - allowing the magnet element to be easily removed and wiped clean. RO element provides extreme rejection California-based membrane company Fluid Systems Corp. has developed a new range of reverse osmosis elements which offer extreme rejection of salt, silica and total organic content. According to Fluid Systems, the TFC-XR reverse osmosis membrane elements provide over 99.7% silica and over 99.6% salt removal. Fl’uid Systems claim that the very high rejection rates are higher than any other membrane element currently available, and add that whether used in a primary loop or polishing loop, these elements provide exreme improvements in water quality. The manufacturer sees a diverse range of applications

for the TFC-XR RO elements, including semiconductor rinsing in the electronics industry along with applications in the pharamaceutical and power industries.

A neat solution for chemical safety data For health and safety officers, ensuring compliance with ever changing international regulations can be a constant fight through red tape. To make the task easier, a new fully integrated service comprising software tools and expert consultancy has been launched by the National Environmental Technology Centre’s (NETCEN) National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC). The service provides users with all the information they require by law when handling and transporting chemicals. Chemical manufacturers and road hauliers transporting chemicals have benefited for some time from the individual software packages available in the Safety Data Solutions range. Now, for the first time, the entire suite of products has been brought together, enabling users to address all national and international regulations governing the movement of chemicals. Label Advisor, SafeText, Datasheet + and Tremcard, can be used to accurately classify the substance, create labels and safety data sheets in up to 11 languages and instructions in writing in up to 24 languages. The four software products enable complete compliance with the Chemical Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply (CHIP), Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (CDGRoad), and the CDG Classification, Packaging and Labelling (CDG-CPL) regulations. NETCEN, which is owned by AEA Technology, runs the NCEC which has over 24 years’ experience of providing chemical emergency response information, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
