LAGOS 2011 – VI Latin-American Algorithms, Graphs, and Optimization Symposium Flavia Bonomo 1 Thomas Liebling 2 Javier Marenco 3 Jayme Szwarcfiter 4 Mario Valencia-Pabon 5 It is a pleasure to introduce this issue of the Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics, which contains the accepted extended abstracts from the VI Latin-American Algorithms, Graphs, and Optimization Symposium (LAGOS 2011). This Symposium took place in Bariloche, Argentina from March 28th to April 1st, 2011, gathering participants from all over the world. By now, this Latin American conference is a well-established major event for the graphs and optimization community, as demonstrated by the ever increasing interest in it by high ranking researchers from the Americas and Europe. This edition of LAGOS gave us the opportunity to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the fundamental article The Ellipsoid Method and its Consequences in Combinatorial Optimization by Martin Gr¨otschel, L´aszl´o Lov´asz, and Alexander Schrijver and we were privileged by the presence of the first two authors as guests of honor. We also were able to welcome Dominique de Werra, Guillermo Dur´an, Daniel Gon¸calves, Donald Goldfarb, Ab´ılio Lucena, Mart´ın Matamala, Gianpaolo Oriolo, J´anos Pach, Gautier Stauffer, Nicol´as Stier Moses, Katalin Vesztergombi, and Annegret Wagler as invited speakers. The steering committee of LAGOS is composed by Tom Liebling and 1 2 3 4 5

LAGOS 2011 / Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics 37 (2011) 1–2
Jayme Szwarcfiter. The program committee of LAGOS 2011 was co-chaired by Flavia Bonomo, Javier Marenco, and Mario Valencia-Pabon, and included 29 experts in graph theory, algorithms, and optimization from many universities and institutions around the world. We gratefully acknowledge the competent work of the program committee and the 206 referees, who thoroughly reviewed the contributed submissions. Due to the very large number of high quality submissions, the selection process turned out to be quite a hard task. We would like to thank all the authors for submitting their work to this competitive event. This is the sixth special volume of Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics devoted to a LAGOS conference, following Volume 7 for the I GRACO/ LAGOS 2001, Volume 18 for LACGA/LAGOS 2004, Volume 19 for II GRACO/ LAGOS 2005, Volume 30 for LAGOS 2007, and Volume 35 for LAGOS 2009. We are very indebted to Prof. Vadim Lozin, Editor-in-chief of Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics, for opening the journal to the publication of the symposium proceedings, and for his assistance during the preparation of this volume. We are very happy to have organized the first edition of LAGOS in Argentina, and we would like to share with you the joy of gathering our community, present the latest research results, exchange ideas, and start collaboration projects. See you in Mexico for the LAGOS 2013!
