GEA exhibits waterMaster CF 6000 Filter press as an advanced solid/ from the ecoforce decanter series liquid separation unit At IFAT in May, GEA Westfalia exhibited its Separator waterMaster CF 6000 from the ecoforce decanter series. The company claims that the waterMaster achieves good separation results whether as a stationary or a mobile unit. This applies to the dewatering and thickening of sewage sludge, the treatment of drinking water and the recovery of valuable materials.

The new control generation GEA Westfalia Separator IO reduces complexity and focuses on user-friendliness.

While earlier generations of decanter centrifuges had two separate frequency converters to drive the bowl and scroll, the waterMaster is controlled by only one frequency converter. The frequency converter of the secondary motor starts the primary motor when the machine starts up. Once the decanter bowl has reached its rated speed, the machine switches to mains operation and the frequency converter is applied to the secondary motor where it now controls the differential

speed. This saves one frequency converter in the control unit and eliminates the loss of efficiency caused by a frequency converter. The deep-pond design of bowls in the GEA Westfalia Separator waterMaster ensures optimized flow characteristics in the bowl with high hydrostatic pressure, improved clarification and a reduced energy requirement for discharging the product.

The product line is designed for high-solids water and wastewater applications, including surface water treatment, high total organic carbon (TOC) water treatment, reverse osmosis (RO) pretreatment, and tertiary wastewater treatment. Koch claims that: MegaPure simplifies operation, eliminates clarifier pretreatment in many applications, minimizes downtime, and reduces chemical usage and these benefits add up to a lower total cost of ownership.

The new HEI filter press is an advanced solid/ liquid separation unit integrated to operate

as a machine that features both electric and hydraulic components. It consists of five main elements: main frame, filtering parts (chamber plate, membrane plate and filter cloth), plate shifting, hydraulic system, and electrical controls. All membrane models are equipped with a squeezing function. The membrane plate is a recessed plate covered by membranes on two sides. The design facilitates both filtering and washing. It is possible to achieve filter cakes with lower moisture content by using compressed air to inflate membranes and squeeze the filter cake. http://www.hofflandenv.com

Koch launches MegaPure hollow fiber line for water & wastewater

A MegaPure ultrafiltration system skid setup.

An automated filter press with several unique features has been introduced by Hoffland Environmental Inc. (HEI). The unit is a membrane filter press system that will efficiently dewater sludges and process streams is such diverse applications as: water and wastewater treatment, minerals and mining, coal dewatering, sludge concentration, pigment production, calcium carbonate operations, sugar plants, mashand-mush-applications in food processing and the unit also finds use in blood plasma purification.

The MegaPure product line fills a niche within the KMS family of ultrafiltration membranes with an average continuous solids tolerance of up to 250 mg/L. It features an advanced cartridge design for better solids management and a reinforced hollow fiber. The addition of the MegaPure line allows KMS to offer a more complete range of ultrafiltration products. The system features a singlepotting cartridge design that allows air scouring to penetrate the fiber bundle more completely and release accumulated solids to the bottom where they are easily drained away. LANXESS launches seawater reverse osmosis membranes Lanxess launched its Lewabrane seawater reverse osmosis membranes at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW). This launch adds to the company’s range of water treatment products, now comprising its Lewatit range of ion exchange resins and LewaPlus software design tool which incorporates both ion exchange resin and reverse osmosis systems in water treatment plant designs.

instance, about 40% of Jakarta is below sea level – this issue is exacerbated by Indonesia’s estimated population growth of about 60% in the next 20 years, which will only increase water consumption needs. The company’s Lewatit range of ion exchange resins has more than 200 different product grades of resins are available for water treatment. http://lanxess.com

With depleting freshwater resources, seawater desalination is increasingly seen as a sustainable means of extracting water for industrial and domestic use. This is especially relevant as a solution in Asia, where methods of groundwater extraction coupled with increasing population sizes has raised concerns of the ‘sinking city effect’ in some countries.
