IN BRIEF/NEWS

In Brief UÊ The Weir Group plc has appointed Goldman Sachs International as joint corporate broker, alongside UBS. The Scottish engineering group announced in August that it had terminated its joint corporate broker engagement with Bank of America Merrill Lynch because of “an undisclosed conflict of interest arising from its engagement as broker by another company”, (see Pump Industry Analyst, August 2014). www.weir.co.uk UÊ ˆ˜â]ÊÕÃÌÀˆ>‡L>Ãi`ÊGebrüder Netzsch Maschinenfabrik GmbH is being renamed Netzsch Pumpen & Systeme Österreich GmbH. Over the years, the company has evolved from being a pump specialist for a single type of pump into a solution provider for NEMO progressing cavity pumps, TORNADO rotary lobe pumps, multi screw pumps, macerators/grinders, dosing technology and equipment for custom built and challenging solutions for many applications, with a production of more than 50 000 pumps per year. www.netzsch.com UÊ SPX Corp’s ClydeUnion Pumps (CUP) has received the “Long Distance Runner” Award from Eskom in South Africa for one of its boiler feed pumps. Lewa buys longtime German sales representative Schmedding

L

ewa GmbH is buying Ingenieurbüro Schmedding KG, a pump sales representative based in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. In addition to representing Lewa, Schmedding also offers a range of other products including Bungartz centrifugal pumps, Richter chemical technology and Witte gear pumps for chemical and polymer applications. Schmedding mainly serves the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, system and machine design sectors and the cosmetics and food industries. Schmedding has been family-managed since it was founded in 1930. Now with the retirement of its CEO Burkhard Schmedding, the company will become part of Lewa. “When we began our cooperation 60 years ago, Lewa was a ten-man shop. Since then, technology leadership and a good corporate culture have united us. Both have let us grow together,” said Burkhard Schmedding. One of the conditions of the Lewa acquisition is that Schmedding employees

will keep their jobs and existing representation partnerships will be retained. “Among other things, the good contacts and great respect for the staff at important industrial clients are good reasons for Lewa to strive to maintain continuity,” said Florian Kieninger, head of corporate development at Lewa. Lewa plans to continue existing agreements with the different pump manufacturers. The company will remain legally and financially independent after its acquisition by Lewa. Burkhard Schmedding will start to gradually reduce his involvement with the company between now and the end of the year. For further information, visit www.lewa.de and www. schmedding-online.de
