A range of refrigerator-cooled cryopumps that are ideal for many high vacuum applications has been introduced. Known as the RPK range, the cryopumps have pumping speeds from 400 to 3500 I s-’ for N,. The two-stage pumps can be supplied either to be built into or onto the chamber to be pumped. A new RW2 two-stage refrigerator unit has been specially designed for cryopump and cryostat applications. The RW2 compressor can operate two or three pumps depending on their capacity. A single stage cold head can be used when there is a requirement to pump large volumes of water vapour. The head can achieve temperatures of less than 10 K. The fields in which these pumps have applications include X-ray machines, specialized coating plants, quartz production and all cases requiring ultra-high vacuum pumping. New quick-acting Nupro plug valves provide downstream venting and high flow capacity. Uses include instrument air lines, pressure gauge lines and actuation of normally-closed and normally-open pneumatic cylinders. Pressure release to atmosphere is accomplished by venting fluid through a small hole in the valve body. When the valve is in the ‘on’ position pressure is applied to a gauge, instrument or cylinder. In the ‘off’ position upstream pressure is blocked and downstream pressure is released to atmosphere. The directional handle indicates whether the valve is in the ‘off’ or the ‘on’ position. The Nupro valve has a TFE coated plug which minimizes friction, resulting in low torque operation and extremely long cycle life. Leak-tight performance is provided by standard Viton ‘O’-ring seals, with no need for adjustment. These vented plug valves will handle up to 150 psi (1030 kPa) and temperatures to 4Oo’F (204’C). Swagelok tube fittings in 4 in., 6 in. and 8 in. and pipe connections in a in. and f in. sizes adapt the valve for use in many systems.
