Abstract: The discovery of relatively long-lived heavy particles with new flavours (charm, beauty. . .) has prompted interest in experimentation techniques which would allow one to visualize and measure tracks associated with the production and decay ofparticles with a meanlife of the order of 10_Is s. Several approaches appear to be very promising with recent technical developments now yielding physics results. A status report covering semiconductor detectors, high resolution streamer chambers, high resolution bubble chambers and emulsion and hybrid techniques, is presented.
