Sumitomo to acquire Keystone PM Sumitomo Electric Industries is to acquire Keystone Powdered Metal Company, a US manufacturer of powdered metal components. The agreement will be entered into between Keystone, Sumitomo Electric USA Holdings Inc. The powdered metal components business of the Sumitomo Electric Group has expanded globally from its beginnings as Sumitomo Electric Sintered Alloy Ltd and supplies a variety of products primarily to
Japanese manufacturers of cars, air conditioners, and automotive components. ‘This acquisition will enable us to expand sales networks for US car manufacturers as well as auto-parts manufacturers, enhance our presence in the US, and capture further business opportunities,’ the company said in a press release. Rubotherm’s instruments are based on a patented magnetic suspension balance that allows for contactless measurement of mass changes of samples in a closed reactor under controlled environments with high resolution and accuracy. Applications include gravimetric measurements over a wide temperature range, under vacuum or high pressures, using corrosives, toxics or vapors as reaction atmospheres.

TA Instruments acquires Rubotherm TA Instruments, a manufacturer of analytical instruments for thermal analysis, rheology, and microcalorimetry has acquired Rubotherm, which supplies analytical test instruments for thermogravimetric and sorption measurements. The instruments can be used in industrial and academic research laboratories in disciplines that include chemistry, material science and engineering.

Death of distinguished PM specialist Winfried J Huppmann, a distinguished member of the international powder metallurgy community, passed away on 13 August 2016, reports the MPIF. Huppmann began his professional PM career working at Sherritt Gordon Mines, Canada, in 1970 before moving on to MaxPlanck-Institute for Metals Research, Stuttgart, Germany.
