LETTER TO THE EDITORS-IN-CHIEF * LIPOLYTIC ACTIVITIES

OF LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT HEPARINS

Trevor W. Barrowcliffe National Institute for Biological Standards and Control, Holly Hill, Hampstead, London NW3 6RB, United Kingdom (Received 15.4.1986; Accepted in original form 15.4.1986 by Editor-in Chief A.L. Copley)

You were kind enough to agree to publish a letter from me entitled "Lipolytic activities of low molecular weight heparins". I sent a copy of this letter to Dr. Harenberg, and he has in turn sent me a copy of his reply, which I presume will have reached you by now. Much of what he says can pass without comment, but the last paragraph could be misleading. To save further correspondence, would it be possible for me to add a 'note in proof'? If so, what I would like to add is the following: "Our preparations of purified HTGL contain only small amounts of AT III contaminant, and we have shown by careful control experiments that the anticoagulant activities of HTGL are not due to contamination with AT III." I would be grateful if it is possible for you to add this to the end of Dr. Harenberg's letter. * The comment by Dr. Barrowcliffe is published in this form because at the time we received it, the Letter to the Editors-in-Chief by Job Harenberg and Jan Augustin was already in press.
