F O C US residues of sodium 1,4-dialkyl sulfosuccinates, including sodium 1,4dihexyl sulfosuccinate, sodium 1,4diisobutyl sulfosuccinate and sodium 1,4-dipentyl sulfosuccinate, when used as inert ingredients in pesticide formulations applied to growing crops. Similar exemptions have also recently been established for alkyl alcohol alkoxylate phosphate derivatives when used as inert ingredients in growing crops under 40 CFR 180 920 and for alkyl alcohol alkoxylate sulfate derivatives when used as inert ingredients in pesticide formulations applied to growing crops, raw agricultural commodities after harvest, and animals under 40 CFR 180 910 and 40 CFR 180 930; and for sodium monoalkyl and dialkyl (C6-C16) phenoxybenzenedisulfonates and related acids when used as inert ingredients at a maximum of 20% by weight in pesticide formulations for pre-harvest and post-harvest use under 40 CFR 180 910, as well as for application to animals under 40 CFR 180 930. PATENTS Spray-dried powdered detergent with perfume capsules Takasago of Tokyo has received Patent No US 7,538,079 B2 for a process for making a spray-dried detergent powder. The process involves forming a warm, stirred aqueous slurry containing up to 20% by weight of capsules containing perfume and then spray drying the slurry to produce a detergent powder while admixing no less than one member chosen from a zeolite builder, phosphate builder, carbonate builder and a surfactant binding agent. More than 40% of the perfume remains encapsulated 60 minutes after dispersion in the slurry at 70°C in a sealed vessel without agitation. S U R FAC TA N T S
for a dye composition containing, in a medium that is ideal for dying keratin fibres, at least one of the following: a dye selected from oxidation dye precursors and direct dyes; at least one surfactant selected from nonionic and anionic surfactants; hydroxyethylcellulose; a cationic associative polymer; and a fatty substance. The weight ratio of the surfactant(s) to the fatty substance(s) is greater than or equal to 1.75. The composition also contains at least 40wt% of water.
The composition also contains a bodifier/humectant and water. HAPPI, Household & Personal Products Industry, Aug 2009, 46 (8), 22
Surfactant-free detergent with antisoil agent
Clariant Produkts (Deutschland) GmbH has obtained Patent No US 7,544,652 B2 for a liquid cleaning composition containing alkylbenzenesulfonate, olefinsulfonate, alkylsulfate, alkyl ether sulfate or mixtures thereof, a secondary alkanesulfonate, a nonionic surfactant and a dye fixative, among other components.
Japanese firm Miz & Co has been granted Patent No US 7,553,807 B2 covering a technology for washing clothes using a washing liquid composition that does not contain a surface active agent (SAA) but includes instead a washing component as a major active detergency component. The washing component comprises an alkaline inorganic salt. The formulation also contains a water-soluble nonionic polymer as an anti-soil redeposition component that inhibits resoiling of hydrophilic and hydrophobic fibres when coexisting with the inorganic salt. The composition has a pH between 9.5 and 11. Detergency equivalent or greater than synthetic detergents containing SAAs is claimed for the formulation.

Liquid detergent with colour-fixing agent from Clariant
Perfumed household products Procter & Gamble has been granted Patent No US 7,550,416 B2 for an aqueous household cleaning, fabric treatment or deodorizing product, which is composed of an aqueous composition consisting of, by weight, around 0.1-30% of a surfactant and about 0.003-5% of a hydrophilic perfume. The aqueous composition may be contained in a plastic container made from at least 80wt% HDPE. HAPPI, Household & Personal Products Industry, Aug 2009, 46 (8), 22
Pure USA patents topical personal care compositions Pure USA LLC of East Brunswick, NJ, has been awarded Patent US No 7,553,460 B2 for a topical personal care composition that combines an anti-inflammatory agent (hydrocortisone, 1%) with an amphoteric surfactant (cocoamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, 30-40%), providing anti-dandruff and scalp treatment in a mild, rinse-off cleansing composition.
ENVIRONMENT Innovations for greenhouse gas reductions The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), the worldwide voice of the chemical industry, announced on 7 Jul 2009 the findings of a carbon life cycle analysis of the chemical industry. The announcement was made in connection with the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate meeting in Rome. The study found that for every unit of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted directly and indirectly by the chemical industry, the industry enabled more than two units of emission savings via the products and technologies provided to other industries and consumers. The study also found that by 2030, the ratio of GHG emission savings to emissions could increase to more than ‘4 to 1’, provided certain actions by industry, stakeholders and policymakers take place. McKinsey & Co, the global management consulting firm, conducted independent 5
