Spherical zone seal body for flexible pipe joint Applicant: Oiles Corporation, Japan This patent describes the manufacture of a spherical joint ring for a flexible pipe joint. The joint ring is manufactured from sheet material that is wrapped around a mandrel and compressed in a mold. The joint ring has a cylindrical inner surface. The spherical outer layer (57) is formed integrally with the spherical zone

substrate. The substrate comprises a reinforcing material (5) of a compressed metal net, and a heat-resistant material including expanded graphite and organic phosphorous compound that fill the mesh of the metal net. Patent number: WO 2004/038263 Inventors: S. Kubota, K. Kurose and T. Takada Publication date: 6 May 2004

Valve for automatic and continuous fluid flow distribution and regulation, with magnetic seal Applicant: Irrimon Sau, Spain The invention relates to a novel design of valve that is used for automatic and continuous fluid flow distribution and regulation. A disk is rolled across the inlet and outlet ports to control the flow rate and distribution. The valve consists of a seal comprising two identical ferromagnetic disks (1) which clamp the smaller-diameter disk (2), which has a permanent magnet. The edges

(3) of the outer disks are beveled to fit the profile of the base (5). In the groove formed between the three disks, an elastic ring (4) is fitted to act as a seal. The seal can move across the ports by means of rolling, with movement controlled by a bimetallic conductor (8) and a control spring (9). Patent number: WO 2004/031633 Inventor: A. Metal or resin gasket-coating formulation Applicant: NOK Corporation, Japan This patent describes a gasket formulation for use on cylinder heads, oil pans, intake/exhaust manifold gasket etc. for automotive engines. The purpose is to provide heat and oil resistance with a formulation that is environmentally less harmful because it can be produced without using any organic solvent. A cured layer of the composition

includes as essential ingredients (1) an acrylic polymer with at least one alkenyl group capable of undergoing a hydrosilylation reaction, (2) a compound with a hydrosilyl group, and (3) a hydrosilylation catalyst. This composition is applied to at least one side of a metal or resin gasket. Patent number: WO 2004/031316 Inventors: K. Senda and Y. Nakagawa Publication date: 15 April 2004

Self-retaining flange seal resolves difficult access Applicant: Siemens AG, Germany The invention relates to a seal that can be placed in a groove that permits convenient assembly even when access is difficult. The seal cross-section is designed so that it is an interference fit with the groove walls. The interference is sufficient to provide a press-fit and for the seal to be retained in the groove. The profile of the seal is designed to provide adequate compression for

reliable sealing and sufficient free space in the groove for displacement of the rubber during compression. A number of variations of the seal profile, using the same principle, are detailed in the patent. The seals are also applied to components such as cover plates with rectangular and octagonal plans. Patent number: WO 2004/031625 Inventors: M. Häberlein et al. Publication date: 15 April 2004

Liquid seal and electrical connection structure Applicant: Inventqjaya Sdn Bhd, Malaysia In this metal-air cell system a common structure electrically connects anodes and cathodes, with a sealed structure to prevent liquid electrolyte leakage. A mechanism provides a downward force on the anode holder, pressing it onto the top plate of the base unit or cathode module. This downward force provides 16

pressure for a facial seal between the anode holder and cathode module. This seal contains the electrolyte in the cathode module. The interconnections are designed so that this downward force provides a low-resistance connection between electrodes. Patent number: WO 2004/038827 Inventors: W.F. Morris and J.G. Solorzano Publication date: 6 May 2004

Valve seal for rotary valve piston engine Applicant/Inventor: G.J. Coates (USA) This patent describes a spherical rotary valve seal for a piston engine that is claimed to have a number of benefits, including improved operational life span. A gas-tight seal is maintained by the pressure developed in the cylinder and combustion chamber by a

series of pressure holes about the seal providing communication for the compressed gases in the cylinder to act on the sealing rings on the periphery of the valve seal. The valve is also claimed to be capable of operating with no external lubrication. Patent number: WO 2004/040177 Publication date: 13 May 2004

Metal seal with corrosion-resistant alloy overlay Applicant: Dril-Quip Inc, USA This patent covers a type of metal double-taper pipe seal which is intended to overcome the problem of differential thermal expansion during temperature cycling. This is a particular problem during a low-temperature cycle if a stainless steel seal element is fitted in a carbon steel pipe. The metal sealing ring has corrosion-resistant inlays on its conical outer sealing

surfaces. The resulting composite sealing ring has the corrosionresistant benefits of stainless steel at the sealing surfaces, together with the desired expansion ratio of conventional carbon steel for the body of the ring.
