diesel oil separator

Alfa Lava1 has announced the release of its MMB 203 low-cost diesel oil separator. The unit does away with the reliance on cartridge filters and is said to reduce operating costs for small power installations. The unit is compact and weighs just 15kg, the company sees the MMB 203 being of particular interest for users in remote locations to whom reliability is vital. Due to the size of conventional centrifugal separators, most small generators are limited to using filters for fuel cleaning. Fuel tilters need changing frequently. Changing the

Double the protection Vacu-Guard 150, from Whatman International, is a new type of filtration capsule that has been developed to prolong the life of costly vacuum pumps, and offers the security of two types of filtration media for double the protection. There are three types of Vacu-Guard 150. Each incorporates a hydrophobic PTFE filter and the choice of a chemical trap of activated carbon, a molecular sieve or desiccant, encapsulated within a polypropylene housing. Activated carbon is for removing organic vapours and radioactive partcles; molecular sieve is for use with organic and alkaline air streams; and desiccant is intended for acidic air streams. The Fl’FE filter gives added protection by retaining particulates and aqueous aerosols. Vfhe granular activated carbon used in Vacu-Guard is produced from lignite coal, and is acid washed after steam

Self cleaning

filters

Tecsi Ltd has announced that its range of ‘self cleaning filters’ are now available in the UK This range of filters offers continuous filtration without the need to ‘backflush’ the system. Utilising a compact and simple design concept, these high capacity filters constructed from 304 stainless steel offer to solve the filtration problems with a wide range of mediums, where continuous operation is required. The filter operates by filtering from inside to outside, with the solids being removed from the cartridge surface by a rotating brush with ‘flexy’ stainless steel bristles. This brush is made up from

three lines of multi-bristles, mounted in such a way, that removed solids are directed down to the bottom of the cartridge, to be ejected via a solenoid valve. The electrically driven brush is activated by adjustable differential pressure switches monitoring inlet and outlet pressures preset from 0.1 to 1.0 bar differential. On activation, the brush rotates at 60 rpm, and after 4 seconds the solenoid in the filter base, opens to eject the removed particulate. Tecsi Ltd, PO Box 215, Forest Row, East Sussex RH18 5yL, UK. offered for vacuum activation. Steam activation yields a material with extremely high internal porosity and surface area. Mesh size is 12 x 20. Molecular sieves comprise crystalline alkali metal aluminosilicates with a three-dimensional interconnecting network structure of silica and alumina tetrahedra. The particular one used in Vacu-Guard 150 has been considered the universal product for removal of water from various gases. It will absorb molecules with a size of less than 4A, and exclude those larger. The desiccant used in Vacu-Guard 150 is neutral, stable and chemically inactive towards reagents other than water; efficiently drying gases flowing through at high velocities. Textile

plants wastewater

EEC, a Total Solution Equipment Manufacturer, has during the last five years designed, tested, and shipped numerous waste water treatment plants to textile manufacturing and bleaching plants. The EEC Waste-Sep is a complete skid mounted systern, ready to be operated immediately after installation. The EEC Waste-Sep will recover 80% of the water from wastewater for reuse in the factory process, including NaOH recovery if required.

Disposable

treatment The 20% rejected wastewater from the EEC WasteSep, now heavily concentrated with colour and other water pollutants, can be treated in the EEC High-Speed Biosystem. At this stage all the organic matter will be completely biodegraded and all non organic matter will be settled. The effluent water will meet EPA regulations for sewer discharge. air filter

Helapet has introduced Arbor Tech’s new disposable sixty millimetre diameter air filter. The new 60mm size is available with either HEPA media or hydrophobic PTFE membrane for sterile and particle free air applications. The hydrophobic media removes water droplets and in-

fectious agents from airstreams. Flow rates are an important feature as more than 200 SLPM can be achieved with as little as 0.7 bar pressure differential. Helapet Ltd., 1 London Road, Berkhamsted, Herb., HP24 2BU, UK Tel: +44 442 87719, fu: + 44 442 876744.

filter manufactured

Ketema Process Equipment has recently shipped the first .of its U.S. made and patented helical pressure filters. Known as Filtroba, the unique pressure filter was purchased by Zeeland Chemicals, USA The filter operates as a totally enclosed system and self-discharges to completely eliminate operator contact with the process. Unique to Filtroba’s design is its helix-shaped filter element which serves as an excellent agitator and also facilitates discharge. Unlike conventional technologies 766

filter too soon wastes money, changing it too late puts the generator at risk. Spent filter cartridges present an environmental problem. Filters are incapable of removing water from the oil, it is injected into the engine and can cause damage to the injection pump and nozzles. In addition, water in the fuel tanks can form a breeding ground for troublesome microorganisms.

which use multiple seals, the Filtroba filter element uses only one seal to separate the suspension from the clean filtrate. Intermediate helical turns rest on supports, creating a springlike configuration which is tolerant to solids overload. There is no remaining residual heel after filtration. The unit offers two washing methods: a static wash and a dynamic wash which resuspends solids by helix rotation. Ketema Process Equipment, P. 0. Box 1406, El Cojon, CA 92022. 1406, USA. Brochure on how to successfully filtration processes Sartorius Separation Technology has produced a guide to successful filtration process scale-up in pharmaceutical manufacturing applications. Entitled ‘How to Scale Up Filtration Processes For Pharmaceutical Manufacturing’, the brochure focusses on accurate prediction of scale-up performance.
