Manufacturing of RO membrane elements begins at Saudi JV

rabian Japanese Membrane Co LLC (AJMC), a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Holding and Japan’s Toyobo Co Ltd and Itochu Corp, has started production of RO membrane elements at its plant in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. AJMC, which will manufacture and sell HOLLOSEP elements for seawater desalination, is aiming for annual sales of ¥1.5 billion in 2012 and ¥4.0 billion in 2015. ACWA has a 49% stake in AJMC, Toyobo holds 36.1% and Itochu owns 14.9%. Toyobo sees this joint venture as a strategic base for the expansion of its business in the Middle East seawater desalination market. AJMC expects to increase its sales of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements for seawater desalination not only in Saudi Arabia, but also in the rest of the Middle East and the North Africa region. tN Nanovation AG is selling its first three container solutions for wastewater purification to US customers after successful tests in a number of US states. Six containers underwent several months of tests under different conditions. Some US-specific requirements were identified and these modifications should be completed by September 2012. Sales are expected to increase further when this second-generation container solution becomes available in the USA in September. ItN is working with marketing partner EIP to target the US market. ItN’s cost-reduction programme is continuing as planned (see Filtration Industry Analyst, April 2012). Staff costs have been cut by around 50% and other operating expenses have been reduced by a similar amount. This will result in total savings of
