Anterior pituitary extract was injected into the mandibular joint region of the rabbit in an attempt to increase condylar growth rate. In six male white rabbits, 7 weeks of age, bilateral injections and lateral cephalometric roentgenographs were made initially and at 10 day intervals over a period of 60 days. Data from subsequent cephalometric tracings were employed to assess the local and systemic changes resulting from the injections of pituitary extract. These data were compared to changes observed in a series of control rabbits. The comparison of experimental and control group data indicated an increased mandibular growth rate in the experimental animals. A similar increase in growth rate of the maxillary complex was also evident. A comparison of changes in total body weight indicated a systemic effect resulting from the experimental procedures.
