IOTADERMA #185 What is Ulysses syndrome? Khalid M. Al Aboud, MD Answer will appear in the JAAD Online section of the July issue of the Journal.

MAY IOTADERMA (#184) What disease is referred to as ‘‘Jeep bottom’’? Answer: Pilonidal sinus. It was common among Jeep riders in World War II (1939-1945). It has also been called Jeep riders’ disease, Jeep seat disease, and Jeep disease. During World War II, more than 80,000 soldiers developed pilonidal cysts that required a hospital stay. People thought the cysts were caused by irritation from riding in bumpy Jeeps. REFERENCES Fisher R, Khan F. Pilonidal sinus in an amputee. J R Army Med Corps 1991;137:88-9. MedicineOnline Web site.
