ANNOUNCEMENTS
NUMERICAL METHODS FOR NON-LINEAR PROBLEMS The University College of Swansea, Wales, is the venue for an International Conference on Numerical Methods for Non-linear Problems which will take place there from 2 to 5 September, 1980. The main objective of the Conference, organised by the Institute for Numerical Methods in Engineering, is to give scientists and engineers an opportunity to present and discuss papers relating to a broad spectrum of pure and applied research on non-linear problems. Novel, as well as more conventional, numerical modelling techniques will be discussed, together with experimental results. Further details may be obtained from Dr C. Taylor, Department of Civil Engineering, University College of Swansea, Swansea SA2 8PP, Wales.
MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF STRUCTURED MEDIA An international symposium on the above topic will take place at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, from 18 to 21 May, 1981. The theme of the symposium--the mechanical behaviour of structured media-forms a link which attempts to unify the various areas of research activity devoted to the examination of the mechanical properties or engineering applications of such materials as soils, rock, ice, wood, metals, concrete and other composites. It is intended that the symposium shall provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, experience and newly conceived ideas between the various disciplines involved. Further information may be obtained from Professor A. P. S. Selvadurai, Department of Civil Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario K 1S 5B6, Canada. NUMERICAL METHODS IN THERMAL PROBLEMS AND IN LAMINAR AND TURBULENT FLOW Venice, Italy, is the venue for two forthcoming conferences concerned with the application of numerical methods.
