This invention relates to cylinder head gaskets for use in high performance internal combustion engines in high temperature and high pressure applications. A dry deck configuration requires discrete seal elements to be used to seal coolant and oil locations as well as the combustion chamber. This has traditionally been accomplished by using individual O-rings for the coolant and oil seal locations and individual combustion seals, such as metal O-rings. This involves costly machining, limiting its use in the marketplace. The present invention is directed towards a head gasket specifically designed for high temperature and high pressure applications, where the compression of discrete coolant, oil and combustion seals are specifically and accurately controlled, and machining of the head or block is not required. Diaphragm seal for use in a medicinal aerosol Applicant: 3M Innovative Properties Co, USA This invention relates to medicinal aerosols, such as metered dose inhalers. Leakage and moisture ingress can limit the shelf life of a medicinal aerosol. Leakage of propellant from a metered dose inhaler (MDI) during storage will lead to an increase in concentration of the other components, such as the drug and excipient, leading to a change in the delivery dosage of drug and excipient. It has been found that using a layered combination of differing seal materials around the valve can provide performance characteristics that are not anticipated by the performance of the seal materials used individually. The diaphragm comprises a first layer of a non-cross-linked rubber and a second layer comprised of a cross-linked thermoplastic elastomer. It is thought that the

first layer provides the diaphragm with the advantages of a highly deformable layer that helps to provide a very tight seal. The second layer provides the advantages of a firmer elastomer that avoids longterm compression set. The benefit of the present invention is that the disadvantages of each layer when used individually are overcome by the presence of the other layer, thus providing an improvement not expected from the individual performance of either layer. It is suggested that the diaphragm comprises a first layer with a compression set of 30% or more, and a second layer with a compression set of 20% or less.
