BOOK REVIEWS from history to the technique to management of complications. It is well organized and fairly thorough for a book of this size. Purpose: The book recounts the experience of international experts in shoulder arthroplasty in dealing with issues such as technique and complications. Audience: It is written for orthopaedic surgeons who would like a reference on the treatment of patients requiring shoulder arthroplasty. The authors are world renowned experts in the field. Features: After covering the history and development of shoulder arthroplasty, the book provides guidance on how to examine patients and measure outcomes. Chapters are devoted to the technique and management of complex issues that can occur during the implantation of the glenoid. Complications are covered, with individual chapters describing the management of infections, fractures, instability, loosening, and bone loss. There is some mention of non-arthroplasty procedures as well. The best part of the book is the level of detail that the book provides about managing the various complications that can occur. Assessment: This excellent book is extremely useful for surgeons who have not performed many primary or revision shoulder arthroplasties. Compared with more comprehensive texts, this book offers superior detail on the procedure of shoulder arthroplasty.
