Housing forms were mailed in April with preregistration forms. Additional housing forms are available from the Meetings Department at the Academy, PO Box 7424, San Francisco, CA 94120-7424.
Chicago's McCormick Place, site of the 1983 Annual Meeting, is one of the nation's largest convention and exhibition centers. This sleek steel and glass four-level structure is only a few minutes from downtown by shuttle bus. Numerous restaurants are located in the building.
Completed applications for housing should be sent to AAO Housing Bureau, c/o Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, McCormick Place-on-the-Lake, Chicago, IL 60616. Do not send housing forms to the Academy.
The scientific sessions, exhibits and posters, the technical exhibits, and many of the instruction courses will be housed in McCormick Place. Some instruction courses and the film/video program will be held a short walking distance away at McCormick Inn.
Forms will be processed on a first-come/first-served basis. For the best opportunity to be assigned the hotel you request, submit your housing form as soon as possible.
Technical Exhibits Confirmation
The technical exhibits will be on the lobby level of McCormick Place. The exhibits will be open 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday, October 30 through Thursday, November 3. Approximately 250 companies will display the latest ophthalmic instruments, equipment, pharmaceuticals, publications, and services.
You will receive confirmation of your hotel assignment from the Housing Bureau within three weeks. The hotel also will confirm your reservation, along with any request for deposit, within six weeks of submitting your application. Deposits are usually required if arrival time will be after 6 pm. If you guarantee your room for late arrival and provide credit card information, you will be billed for one night's lodging, even if you do not use the room.
Academy Resource Center Members and guests are encouraged to visit the Academy Resource Center on the McCormick Place exhibit floor. If you are looking for information about Academy programs and services or wish to purchase Academy materials, the Resource Center is the place to go. The following programs and services will be represented: continuing education, public education, placement exchange, membership services, insurance programs, governmental relations, society relations, and the foundation museum. Academy staff will be available to answer questions. A lounge also will be located in the Resource Center.
