Microprocessors by degrees Two new BSc degree courses in the study of microprocessors will be offered by the University of Strathclyde, UK, from October 1979. These courses are being introduced to meet the urgent need for education in an area which is vital to Britain's industrial future. The two courses are BSc in Computer Science and Microprocessor Systems, and BSc in Electronic and Microprocessor Engineering. In the first two years of both courses common subjects will be computer science, electronics, instrumentation and mathematics. In the third and fourth years the courses will diverge in order to emphasise the computing and electronics aspects of microprocessors. The BSc in Computer Science and Microprocessor Systems will teach students to become skilled designers of microprocessor-based systems with a competence primarily in programming and with knowledge of relevant electronics. The BSc in Electronic and Microprocessor Engineering will emphasise the use of signal processing and digital techniques in the development of microprocessor systems in areas of electronics such as telecommunications, automatic control, medical electronics and instrumentation.
