Sartorius introduces new sterilising grade filters Sartorius Stedim Biotech has introduced a new generation of sterilising-grade filters, Sartopore® Platinum, to the company’s filter portfolio. The surface of the Sartopore Platinum polyethersulphone filter membrane has been modified using a hydrophilic and highly thermostable polymer. This surface modification gives the membrane good wetting properties and minimises its protein binding. Fewer than five litres of WFI (Water for Injection) are needed to wet a 10 inch Sartopore Platinum cartridge fast and reliably for subsequent integrity testing that provides dependably accurate results. According to Sartorius, the membrane’s minimised protein binding considerably increases product yield, which augments the efficiency of manufacturing processes. Sartopore Platinum filter cartridges can be drysteam sterilised in the forward or the reverse direction, without altering the properties of their membrane. These sterilisinggrade filters can be used in the entire pH range from 1 to 14 and therefore for nearly any filtration

application in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The membrane of the Sartopore Platinum filter cartridges has been pleated using Sartorius’ newly developed, proprietary TwinPleat® process. The alternating long and short pleats of the membrane increase the filter area of a 10 inch cartridge by more than 60%. At the same time, this geometry ensures that liquids flow through the entire filter area so that the filtration capacity of the cartridge is used to the fullest extent. As a result, Sartopore Platinum filter cartridges substantially boost filtration performance and lower filtration costs. The new sterilising-grade filter cartridges are available in a choice of different sizes and constructions ranging from laboratory to production scale. In all sizes, identical materials of construction with consistent performance characteristics are used. Therefore, Sartopore Platinum enables linear scale-up for a large number of applications in the biopharmaceutical industry. www.sartorius.com

The UltraSnap filter assembly from Meissner Filtration Products.

Meissner Filtration Products, Inc. has introduced the UltraSnap™ filter assembly for securing multiple pre- and final filters into a single-use filtration system for plug and play use. Meissner adds that this configurable system is optimised for clarification through sterile filtration applications and effectively makes the scale of single-use filters unlimited. Designed with the flexibility to incorporate UltraCap® H.D. filter capsules from 25.4-127cm (10-50 inches), the company says that UltraSnap™ assemblies maximise processing and scale-up possibilities. Optimised designs can accommodate processing requirements for flow capacity, throughput volume, and retention efficiencies. The UltraSnap™ filter assembly arrives as a pre-assembled unit, ready for

immediate use. The assembly can be ordered pre-sterilised for added convenience. Meissner says that the UltraSnap™ filter assembly eliminates the time and expense associated with change-out of filters from stainless steel housings and the associated cleaning and reassembly of the filter/housing unit(s). This time saved from cleaning operations results in less downtime between filtration runs, and improved productivity. The UltraSnap™ filter assembly has very low holdup volume, which minimises product loss during changeouts and ensures maximum product recovery. Support stands and carts can be designed to integrate the UltraSnap™ filter assembly into the end-user’s unit operations. www.meissner.com

WS Tyler adds laser etched identification WS Tyler has started production of test sieves with laser etched identification. The information required to meet industry standards will be permanently

etched into the metal frames. The sieve designation field will be larger than traditional

name plates, and the permanent markings provide protection against loss of a metal nameplate due to the failure of mechanical fasteners. The function and

the measuring ability of the instrument will not be affected, says the company. www.wstyler.com
