What Membership of the British Contact Lens Association Means Membership of the British Contact Lens Association is open to any person connected with any aspect of contact lens practice, provided that their application is approved by Council. Members may also, if they so wish and are suitably registered and resident in the United Kingdom, join one of the four sections - Optometric, Dispensing, Medical, or Technical. Scientific meetings, open to all members regardless of section, are held on average five times a year, usually in London, and there is an annual clinical conference held at various venues throughout the United Kingdom. The Association publishes its own quarterly Journal. This is mailed to members as p a r t of the annual subscription. Members also receive the abstract publication Contact Lens Update and the Contact Lens Solutions Compendium. BCLA Education Courses are also run during the year. The Association has recently embarked on a programme of distance learning and members are now able to purchase audio tapes of scientific meetings and the annual conference for a nominal fee - video tapes are also being produced.
