Message from the IAP ID Chapter Chairperson As all of us know infectious diseases remain the most important threat to human health despite remarkable advances in modern medicine. The burden of morbidity & mortality associated with infectious diseases falls most heavily on infants & children especially in developing countries like ours. It is believed that Asia is the major centre of emerging & re-emerging infectious disease including antimicrobial resistance in major human pathogens. Major bulk of the practice for the practicing pediatricians in our country is infectious diseases. Therefore, it is very essential for all of us to remain well versed with the current scientific information in the field. Having realization of all these facts, the stalwarts of IAP started to seek the scientific solution of all these issues. For scientific working & spreading the current concepts amongst the members, infectious Disease chapter of IAP was formed. Currently, ID chapter of IAP is dynamic, having the membership strength of more than 1000. Organization of national conference, CMEs, workshops, preparing the guidelines & protocols are regular academic activities of the body. William Osler used to say, “Note your observations while working, tabulate them & publish it for wide information to other members”. Academic material can be circulated widely through publication of the journal. News bulletin of our chapter is regularly published quarterly since 2002. The first issue was published by Dr. Raju Shah. Dr. Ashok Kapse, Dr. P.S. Patil & Dr. Parang Mehta took over the responsibility of chief editorship successively & due to their efforts the publication has become popular amongst the members. It is the moment of privilege & pride for me that from the year 2009, during my tenure as Chairperson of the chapter, News bulletin is converted into the official journal of our chapter under able editorship of Dr. Vijay Yewale. I am happy to present before you the first issue of it. I am confident it will get the best place in the field of publication in due course of time with efforts of our dynamic editor Dr. Vijay Yewale, editorial board & all the members of the chapter. I wish a grand success of our prestigious publication.
