lo-year-old black girl was referred to the Department of Oral Surgery for evaluation of the delayed eruption of the maxillary left lateral incisor and an associated metallic foreign body. Oral examination revealed a retained deciduous left maxillary central incisor; the overlying gingiva was within normal limits. The patient revealed that she had been shot in the lip with a “BB” gun several years before and the area had not been examined radiographically since that time. The teeth and foreign body were removed. Gross and microscopic examinations revealed a deciduous lateral incisor and a deformed succedaneouslateral incisor which contained a round copper object consistent with a “BB.” An inflamed dentigerous cyst was associated with the deformed lateral incisor.
