4910718 METHOD AND APPARATUS ACOUSTIC EMISSION MONITORING
FOR
Michael Horn assigned to Grumman Aerospace Corporation In order to locate a source of acoustic emissions, two multi-element transducers are employed. The elements of each transducer are subjected to an impinging acoustic wave at different moment in time depending upon the angle of the wave. Outputs from the elements of each transducer are compared with a look-up table to determine the angle. Then, another look-up table is used to determine the X-Y intersection of impinging wave angles from both transducers which locates the source.
4911110 WASTE HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR LIQUID-COOLED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Mitsumasa Isoda, Tamotsu Nishitsuji, Yoshimichi Takamatsu, Katsunori Takamiya, Sakai, Japan assigned to Kubota Ltd In a waste heat recovery system for a liquidcooled internal combustion engine, including a water jacket of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine in which a portion of the heat generating in the engine is absorbed by an engine cooling liquid, a first heat exchanger is provided for heat absorption from the exhaust gas in which the exhaust gas heat is absorbed thereby and a second heat exchanger is provided for heat recovery in which the waste heat is recovered from the engine cooling liquid carrying the above-mentioned heat. A second circuit for waste heat recovery from the engine includes the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger, both being connected to the water jacket in series. The second circuit is adapted to return the engine cooling liquid within the water jacket to the water jacket through the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger by a forced circulation force or a natural circulation force. Futhermore, the first circuit for engine cooling comprises an engine cooling radiator which is connected to the water jacket in the
VII
manner of a circulation loop. The first circuit is adapted to circulate the engine cooling liquid at least through the water jacket and the engine cooling radiator. The engine cooling radiator is constructed so that the heat radiation therefrom can be controlled by a heat radiation control mechanism.
4911257 VEHICLE HAVING A SOLAR BATTERY SYSTEM Shinshi Kajimoto, Tooru Niitani, Osamu Michihara, Mitsutoshi Kuroiwa, Hiroshima, Japan assigned to Mazda Motor Corporation A solar battery system for a vehicle comprises a solar battery mounted on a body of the vehicle, an actinometer provided on the body for detecting the quantity of solar radiation supplied to the body, a controller for comparing an output of the solar battery with a detection output of the actinometer to obtain a result of comparison and generating an alarm signal when the result of comparison is out of a predetermined condition, and a warning device provided in a cabin formed in the vehicle for giving a warning in response to the alarm signal obtained from the controller.
4911757 PROCESS FOR CHEMICAL STABILIZATION OF HEAVY METAL BEARING DUSTS AND SLUDGES John D Lynn, Charles E Jablonski, Walter D Egan assigned to Bethlehem Steel Corporation A calcium-alumino-silicate composition comprising the reaction product of electric arc furnace dust and/or an aqueous chemical waste sludge including a source of ferrous ions and selective additive materials, the additive materials are selected so that the total composition of the additive ingredients and said sludge includes fly ash, electric arc furnace dust, lime kiln dust, ferrous sulfate, hydrated lime to provide an alkalinity of about 9 to 9.5~ and water, the composition contains at least 0.2% by weight of ferrous ions and is hardenable through chemical reactions, the product of which includes calcium-alumino-silicates.
