They all have the patented hydrokinetic fluid drive used on the ER Series, but further developed to give improved power transmission and hence better speeds in the high-pressure region. Hydrokinetic drive offers major advantages in efficiency and safety and makes the pumps virtually undamageable. Throughout the pressure range and whatever the gas load, this drive permits the pumps to operate at optimum speed with minimum power demand and allows the pumps to be switched on at atmospheric pressure without danger of overloading, thus greatly reducing pump-down time and eliminating the need for by-pass systems or automatic pump sequencing. It also protects both pump and motor by making them immune to shock loads. Standard diaphragm material is nitrile, which has low outgassing rate and good resistance to most oils, or Speedivalves may be ordered with Viton diaphragms which have exceptionally low outgassing rate and a high resistance to a wide range of acids, chemicals, solvents, oils and lubricants. Hick Hargreaves have introduced their latest range of Hick Ring Vacuum Pumps suitable for creating vacuum down to 25 torr (1 in. Hg abs). When operated in conjunction with their air or steam ejectors, vacuums less than 5 torr (1 in. Hg abs) can be achieved. The capacity range of the pumps is 15-6500 c.f.m. (25-l 1 ,150 m3-‘) These pumps have improved efficiency, require less service water and power and have low noise level. They are made up of a reduced number of parts to reduce maintenance and spares cost, and the smaller and medium sizes are fitted with mechanical seals as standard. Edwards High Vacuum has introduced a 12-in. Ion Plating Unit, based on their E306 Coater. It is suitable for production plating of small parts such as nuts, bolts, springs, ball bearings, or for pilot and experimental work. Based largely on standard production components, it is extremely reliable and economical; in fact the only significant modifications required to the well-proven E306 have been the fitting of a work-holder insulated from earth and provided with a rectified HT power supply, and appropriate instrumentation.

added a steam ejector vacuum industrial pumping systems.
Steam ejectors can be offered as single-, two-, three- or four-stage units covering vacuum ranges from 760 to 0.5 torr. Specially designed pre-, inter-, and after-condensers can also be supplied, as well as complete sets incorporating the existing liquid ring vacuum pump range.
Ion plating is a high-energy deposition process which produces films with qualities difficult to obtain by conventional methods: outstanding film adhesion, and depending on the material deposited, exceptional corrosion resistance, high film purity, fine grain structure, very low coefficient of friction, and even, overall specimen coverage including areas not directly exposed to the source (due principally to the gas scattering effect) which often eliminates the need for rotating or planetary work-holders. Edwards also has experience for treatment of components Manor

Speedivalves
Edwards High Vacuum announce a new range of Speedivalve vacuum isolation valves, designed to metric standards, and fitted with Edwards SC Couplings which meet Pneurop, IS0 and British Standards. The SC Couplings enable Speedivalves to be connected into vacuum systems without use of tools, although they can also be installed permanently by brazing or soldering. They are compatible with existing Edwards imperial systems and can also be used with KF systems. Available with nominal bores of 5, 10, and 25 mm, Speedivalves are extremely rugged, tolerant of dirty and dusty conditions, and generally ideal for most gas and liquid handling systems. They are manually operated and work on a diaphragm-and-weir principle which renders them leak-tight to better than 10-s torr I s-l both overall and across the valve seat. 38

The steam ejector vacuum system offers distinct advantages over mechanical vacuum systems, particularly where large pumping capacities are required, and the relatively simple construction considerably reduces initial capital investment. Steam ejectors are also well suited to continuous operation over a wide pressures and temperatures range. Where corrosive gases have to be handled the ejectors can be offered in a wide range of materials, e.g. carbon steel, stainless steel, graphite, glass and plastic.
