OPMI C~iling Mounts The 8-2, for manually"operated OPMI's, and the S-3, for motorized microscopes, offer stability, high lifting capacity and assured patient safety. Both new aerial support systems feature an articulated carrier arm that has been lengthened to extend the horizontal reach of the microscope to 825 mm. Either mount can be attached to a Zeiss ceiling track for additional travel and reach. The articulated arm accepts UP to 45 Ibs of weight and accommodates any OPMI (except the Model 99) with a full complement of accessories for observation, assistance and documentation. An adjustable tension control, conveniently located, compensates for instrument weight differences and permits effortless,
virtually weightless, movement of the microscope. A built-in safety stop prevents accidental downward travel. All electrical connections and controls are enclosed in the column and carrier arm and the S-3 mount also allows hand or foot control of all microscope functions, including zoom and focus. A special model, the S-3B, has a built-in power supply for bipolar coagulation. All models have extra outlets for additional illuminators and/or accessories. Price on request Zeiss Microscope Optics Guide "Zeiss Microscope Optics," a new, 12-page guide to the selection of the correct objectives, condensers and eyepieces for best performance in a vast array of applications, has been published by Carl Zeiss, Inc. In addition to identifying a wide range of objective types, in magnifications from 1x to 100x, the brochure provides interesting insights into diffraction-limited optics design and manufacture. The fully-illustrated brochure discusses the reasons for the nearly 150 objectives that are available for Zeiss light microscopes in more than two dozen numerical apertures and nearly four dozen working distances, from .05 mm to 22.3 mm. Designed for the standard 160 mm tube length or infinity-corrected for the Axiomat, the full line of objectives is detailed to indicate the manner and extent to which major lens aberrations are corrected. A listing of fixed, swing-out and turret condensers also includes recommendations for their use in brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, polarized light and DIC techniques. Examples of specimen studies in medical and industrial research are documented in a series of full-color photographs. Several computer graphics displays also show the three-dimensional intensity distributions of the smallest picture point (the Airy disk) created by various lenses. Technical Brochure #41-9048
