xent Technologies has revealed its extended reseller initiative - the Axent Star Partner Programme - which includes security software, training and support. The company claims to have devised a comprehensive one-stop network security solutions package, so that resellers can compete aggressively in a demanding marketplace. John Holland from Axent said, “To compete successfully in this high growth area, resellers must be able to provide complete network security solutions for their customers, including everything from firewalls to desktop/PC security.” Axent recognizes that customers are looking for an integrated approach to their network security, something that will protect against unauthorized access to their networks, secure their Web-based information, authenticate their users, protect their intranets and extranets and secure confidential data held on PCs and laptops. Star Partners will not only be supplied with Axent’s one-stop solutions package, but will also benefit from continuous training and support. applications in many non-military environments which would benefit from greater security in electronic messaging. In many commercial E-mail systems, for example, third parties can access manage contents, often resulting in fraud. At the same time, some systems offer no proof that messages have actually been received and acknowledged by the correct recipient. gets new network-based
banking application
I
n the UK, Midland Bank has placed an order with cryptographic products and services provider, Zergo Ltd to provide security for a new network-based banking application. Once the product is complete, the new service will allow users to electronically exchange financial information in confidence.
There are two critical security functions within the new application: confidentiality and user authentication. Zergo intends to deliver products that will encrypt the data and attach digital signatures. These products include Zergo Secure Key, a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Certification and Registration Authority; Zergo Attache, which secures E-mail attachments; the Zergo HSP4000, a high performance hardware cryptographic co-processor for PCs. Zergo Secure Key is a suite of products that are used to register users, and issue public key certificates and public keys. The certificates provide users with a digital signature which allows the system to vouch for their identity whenever they send messages, as well as the authenticity of the public key they hold.
