NEWS AND VIEWS Akzo Nobel constructs facility to serve European aerospace market Akzo Nobel Aerospace Coatings (ANAC) recently began constructing a US$2.7-million facility to house small-batch production and colour-blending operations for aerospace coatings.

Called the Aerospace Colour Centre (ACC), it is located on the north end of the existing Akzo Nobel plant in Sassenheim, The Netherlands.
Millennium appoints Vice President for Performance Chemicals
According to ANAC, the facility will be used to manufacture custom colour aerospace top-coats to customer specifications, using automatic dispensing and colour computer technology. Quality control and 'colour development' will be carried out in a purpose-built humidity and temperature-controlled laboratory. 'Climatised' spray booths, drying and colour-testing areas are included in the same facility.
US-based Millennium Chemicals Inc has appointed Jack Von Ohlen Vice President - Performance Chemicals. In this position, he will oversee the growth of Millennium's performance ultrafine TiO2, zirconia, titanium tetrachloride and cadmium colours and silica businesses.
The facility will produce a range of aerospace top-coat products and is to be commissioned early in the fourth quarter of 2001.

Albemarle names Vice President and General Counsel Albemarle Corp of Richmond, Virginia, USA, has announced that George Manson Jr has joined the company as Vice President and General Counsel. In this role he assumes responsibility for Albemarle's law department as chief legal officer for the company. Manson most recently served as Vice President and General Counsel for Hamilton Beach Proctor Silex Company in Richmond, Virginia. He brings to Albemarle broad experience having served as both private and corporate counsel with such firms as Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre in New Orleans
