198 Abstracts STRUCTURE OF TWO SUGAR-ORGANOTINS. F. Istituto di Strutturistica Chimica “G. Giacomello”, CNR, CP 10, 00016, Monterotondo Stazione, Rome, Italy, M. Rossi, Department of Chemistry, Vassar College Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601, USA. Organotin compounds are known to interact with biological systems such as bactericides and acaricides; their antitumor activity also has been tested [l]. It has been suggested that naturally occurring biological compounds such as hormones and sugars bound to tin should give better T/C values than those so far observed. The structures of two sugar-Sn(a.ryl)3 compounds have been done and are presented. Most of the glucose hydroxyl groups are protected with acetonic groups to slow metabolic decomposition. Further tests on these compounds are underway. [l] A. Crowe, P. Smith, Chem. and Ind. 200 (19SO).

METAL COMPLEXES WITH CYTOSTATIC ACTIVITY A.Furlani, A.Papaioannou, V.Scarcia, Istituto di Farmacologia e Farmacognosia, University of Trieste, Italy. di Chimica, University of Modena, C.Preti, Dipartimento Italy. V.Cherchi, L.Sindellari, Dipartimento di Chimica Inorganica, University of Padova, Italy. Many metal complexes have been preliminarly tested "in vitro" against KB cells, a human established cell line derived from a mouth carcinoma, and murine leukemia L 1210. Some of the new complexes, especially the tin dithiocarbamato derivatives showed noteworthy cytostatic activity.

CHARACTERIZATION AND IN VIVO EFFECTS OF ORGANOTIN (IV)COt{POUNDS

K.S. Siddiq;i, Department of Chemistry, Aligarh MuslimUniversity Aligarh - 202002 - INDIA. Diethyl organotin dichloride yielded complexes with S. benzoyl dithiocarbamate of sulphamerazine and sulphadiazine. Complexes are covalent in DMSO. The toxicity of organic bases and their corresponding complexes has also been investigated. It has been shown that chelation of the ligand pronounces the toxicity which is reflected by LD5o.
