PSI atomiser brings laser Doppler technology to bear PSI have delivered one of their new, improved pilotscale vacuum/inert gas atomiser systems to a major European powder producer. Incorporating PSI’s gas superheating technology and enhanced vacuum technology, the atomiser is capable of producing finer powders whilst minimising oxygen pickup. PSI’s human-machine interface and video system enables precise operator control and monitoring of the entire atomisation process from a central console whilst laser Doppler anemometry studies the rapidly solidifying atomisation plume to enable optimisation of process parameters for upscaled production atomiser systems. All Hermiga atomisers are designed, manufactured and tested in PSI’s factory in the UK prior to installation, commissioning and training by experienced PSI engineers.
Sumitomo swoops Sumitomo Electric Industries and its wholly owned subsidiary Sumitomo Electric Sintered Alloys, based in Japan, has acquired Cloyes Europe. Located in Zittau, Germany, the automotive PM parts operation was owned by Cloyes Gear & Products of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and its
minority partner, Sumitomo Corporation Group. The new company will be called Sumitomo Electric Sintered Components Germany GmbH. Cloyes opened the PM parts plant in 2003. The plant has about 80 employees and specialises in auto engine parts.
More powder piston rings TEIKOKU Piston Ring Co plans to increase output of PM valve seats and guides in China to meet growing demand from local automakers looking to improve product quality, according to the Nikkei Weekly. The company will invest Yen 250 million (US$2.2 million) to build a new plant in Anhui Province via local group member Anqing TP Powder Metallurgy Co. Land has been secured adjacent to an existing plant and the new plant is expected to be in operation by summer 2008. The expansion will increase the company's valve seat production capacity by 30 per cent to 4 million units per month and double valve guide production capacity to 2 million units per month.
