MARKET PROSPECTS potable reuse applications which is particularly important given California’s ongoing drought. The expansion is expected to add approximately 8 million gallons per day of filtrate capacity as pretreatment to the reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation process step.

Ovivo will also design and supply containerised modular fresh water makers for an offshore oil and gas production platform in the North Pacific Ocean. The contract, which is worth more than C$9 million, includes a custom designed production plant, using reverse osmosis membrane process. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in 2016.

Veolia recognized as Distinguished Supplier on Dubai sewage plant Hyder Mott MacDonald JV to support UK extension wastewater works Municipality has named expansion Veolia Water Solutions & Dubai

Technologies as a Distinguished Supplier for the extension of the Al Aweer Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies has been providing engineering, procurement and construction for the extension of the plant since July 2014. Under its strategic plan 2015–2021, Dubai Municipality has awarded a number of Mega Infrastructures Projects based on the approved Drainage and Irrigation Master Plan to upgrade the STPs and to improve the performance of the existing sewerage system.

Ovivo to deliver recycled wastewaterusing boiler feed system for power plant

O

vivo has also won a C$5 million contract to supply a boiler feed water system that will use recycled wastewater for a power plant in the Middle East. The Ovivo system, which is scheduled for delivery in 2016, will recycle wastewater from a nearby municipal sewage treatment plant. The scope of supply includes Ovivo process design and equipment such as clarification, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and electrodeionization to achieve the required level of water purity. Meanwhile Belgian nanoelectronics research centre Imec has selected Ovivo to provide an ultrapure water (UPW) plant for its new clean room facilities in Leuven. The system is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2015.

April 2015

A

partnership between Hyder Consulting and Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Laing O’Rourke Imtech joint venture to provide detailed design and project management services for a multimillion pound expansion of the Davyhulme wastewater treatment works in Manchester, UK. Davyhulme treatment works serves a population of more than one million people. The upgrade is expected to improve the quality of water entering the Manchester Ship Canal and involves significant remediation of previously abandoned land. Six circular primary settlement tanks and a large activated sludge plant with 10 circular final settlement tanks will be built. The project team will use digital engineering, building information modelling (BIM) and design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) processes, allowing the plant to be built virtually before starting construction on site. The works will be completed while the existing plant remains fully operational. The expansion is due to be completed in 2018.

DESALINATION

Mott MacDonald named technical advisor on Moroccan desalination plant

M

ott MacDonald has been appointed lender’s technical

advisor for the development of a desalination plant in Morocco. Morocco’s Office National de Electricité et de l’Eau Potable has launched an E87 million public-private partnership for the finance, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a 100 000 m3 desalination plant located between Agadir and Essaouira. Mott MacDonald will monitor the design and construction of the plant and analyse potential risks for the lender. The consultancy will also be responsible for reviewing administrative procedures, the development of studies, works progress and the handover process. Philippe Auzet, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “The plant will require specific equipment for treating seawater and producing potable water, including pumps, membranes for reverse osmosis and transformers. The majority of this equipment is not available on the Moroccan market and will need to be imported from Europe and Asia.” The plant is due to be built by the end of 2016.

Desalination conference tackles global water issues

T

he 2nd International Conference on Desalination Using Membrane Technology will take place in Singapore 26–29 July 2015. Delegates at the 2nd International Conference on Desalination Using Membrane Technology, organized by Elsevier, will disseminate and discuss cutting edge research. The conference scope will include theoretical and applied research, and technological and industrial development. Topics will cover reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, microfiltration, pre-treatment and posttreatment processes, novel desalination technologies, membrane systems, brine/concentrate disposal and waste management, energy and sustainability, economics and case studies. Conference participants will include leading academic researchers, scientists and engineers from membrane, desalination and associated industries as well as representatives of government organizations, international agencies and aid bodies.
