Mould sealer leaves no streaks
Xtend S-19B is wiped on at room temperature and left to dry and cure with no wipe-off or polishing required to achieve a glossy 'class A' surface.
Axel Plastics Research Laboratories says its new XTEND S-19B mould sealer is easy to apply and leaves no streaks on the mould surface. Because mould sealers generally contain more solids than mould releases, they are more difficult to apply, says Nancy Teufel, Axel's technical support manager. High gloss surfaces are usually difficult to achieve, she says, but Xtend S-19B achieves a smooth 'class A' surface with
no polishing. The low viscosity liquid is simply wiped on and left to dry and cure at ambient temperature. Xtend S-19B is said to work just as well in demanding conditions, such as high temperature and humidity, which usually make application even more difficult and often cause streaking and hazing. Compared with other products, it is designed to provide better resistance to styrene and to
improve the release of low volatile organic compound (VOC) gel-coats. Xtend S-19B is supplied in 3.8 litre (one gallon) packages, 57 litre (15 gallon) mini-drums and 208 litre (55 gallon) drums. Contact: Axel Plastic Research Laboratories Tel: +1 718 762 3300 Fax: +1 718 565 7447 E-mail:

Antimicrobial approved for food use Swiss Company Sanitized’s Silver antimicrobial has won approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food contact applications. The additive is based on natural
silver and is said to be particularly resistant to discolouration. Whereas plastics treated with other silver antimicrobials will discolour on contact with certain foods such
as cheese, Sanitized says this is not the case with its product. The system’s glass ceramic carrier is said to almost double the product’s efficacy compared with other silver-based
additives, meaning the required properties can be achieved at lower doses. Contact: Sanitized AG Website: www.sanitized.com
Simplified colouring for small batch production
The Auricolor system includes colorants, dispensing equipment, colour matching and formula management software, and full technical support.
The latest plastic colorant system from CPS Color is claimed to enable the fast, costeffective colouring of small production batches for vehicle interiors. CPS says the Auricolor system removes the 'trial and error' approach often used in colouring processes. Often, it says traditional colouring processes must be adjusted and tested for every new batch. In contrast, Auricolor is designed to produce the exact colour required in a single step. The system includes colorants, dispensing equipment, colour
matching and formula management software, and full technical support. Using standardized colorants based on a commonly used phthalate plasticizer, the colouring process is said to take just a few minutes rather than the usual several hours, and to yield completely reproducible results. The company has also developed a phthalate-free version of the system in anticipation of future environmental restrictions. Contact: CPS Color Website: www.cpscolor.com
