Long chain olefines CPChem improves wax quality [l table] Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) has enhanced its alpha-olefins portfolio by launching high carbon chain length products, including C2628 and C30+, with improved content of alpha-olefins. The alpha-olefin content has been raised from 50% to 80%. Molecular linearity has also been improved. The waxes are more reactive and possess higher purity. Production of the waxes is being undertaken at Cedar Bayou, TX, and capacities are 10,000 tonnes/y for C30+ products and 8170 tonnes/y for C26-28 products. Possible uses are for alkyl silanes for cosmetics and water repellent coatings, epoxides for epoxy resins and alkyl-aromatics for detergents and metal working fluids. ~~. ~ ~. Alkoxylates Colgate-Palmolive patents microemulsion liquid cleanser Belgian researchers of ColgatePalmolive have received patent number US 6,291,418 Bl for a microemulsion cleaning composition. The composition contains an ethoxylated/propoxylated nonionic surfactant, sulfonated surfactants and short chain amphiphiles, which are formed by the condensation of ethylene oxide and an alkanol. The products, offered either as an oil base for spray applications or as a mineralbased powder for coating, have applications on fertilizer AN, CAN, NPKs as well as on single salts potash. Herbicide hits grassweed targets hard: Bayer introduces Attribut Bayer is introducing its new grass weed herbicide Attribut in the UK in Feb 2002. Based on propoxycarbazone-sodium the largely rootabsorbed product is effective through its ALS-inhibiting properties. It is used in cereals to give superior control of grasses such as couch, brome and blackgrass. Fragrances JCW spotlight: flavours and fragrances: deep-seated trend toward lower prices [1 table, 1 figure] According to the Japan Flavor and Fragrance Manufacturers’ Association, there was an 8.0% increase in production of flavours and fragrances in 2000 to 65,000 tonnes. The value of production has been unchanged from Yen 161 bn for the last three years. Using comparable figures for 1H 2001, there was a 4.6% increase in production to 33,000 tonnes, with a 5.2% rise in sales volume to 40,000 tonnes. Sales value fell 2.3%. For flavour compounds, production rose 8.0%. Although sales volume rose 7.2% for the year, sales overall recorded a decline. The fragrances market is threatened by increasing demand for products with little or no fragrance. Business performance was also affected by an increased level of soaps and detergents imports. The grip is made of a PP mesh overmoulded with the Santropene TPE. The grip also exhibits resistance to wearing and chemicals, and can be easily cleaned using detergent or soap.
