Hainault Thermal Services claim that for a plant of 7.5 ton refrigeration capacity using 38-64 gallons (1 73-291 l) of hot water per hour, the unit will pay for itself in nine months. The 40 000 m 2 Central Medical Store is being built for Kuwait's Ministry of Public Health. It will be a fully computerized cold storage and distribution centre for pharmaceutical products. The store will serve all hospitals, clinics and other medical institutions within the health sector in Kuwait. The system has been designed for high-rise density storage. It comprises 2 km of PKZ FIFO racks holding 2 6 0 0 0 roll containers and 13 km of FIFO racks holding 2 0 0 0 0 plastic boxes. A multi-system air-to-air heat pump is to be launched in Britain in 1982 by Toshiba. Operating on single phase 240 V ac mains and with a COP of 285% at 7°C ambient temperature, the heat pump is designed to provide heating and air conditioning for the modern, well insulated home and office suite. The system comprises an outdoor condenser unit which can be teamed up with four indoor fan coil units, each capable of delivering 12 000 Btu heating, or 8000 Btu cooling comfort. With the wall mounted unit, the air flow rate is 8.5 m 3 min -~, whilst with the floor standing version, the rate is 7.2 m 3 min -1. Both models remove moisture at a rate of 1.2 I m i n - 1 The RBZ 23 HE mixing unit allows two internal fan coil units to be run off one condenser circuit in what Toshiba describes as a 'lead-lag' arrangement. Whichever one of the pairs is switched on first becomes the lead machine, and whilst it is providing heating/cooling the other runs on fan only. Once the lead machine has achieved the

desired room temperature, the RBZ23 mixing unit automatically switches in the lag machine, until it also achieves the desired temperature. The system then becomes self-balancing as required. The Toshiba multisystem is designed to operate at

temperatures well below freezing and is perfectly suitable for use in temperate climates. At - 5 ° C the system operates with an efficiency of 182% giving 7300 Btu of usable heat. An auto defrost circuit is incorporated in the multisystem whereby a frost sensor in the
