India The present study was undertaken to determine the most effective dose of Porcine Pituitary Folltropin Extract (PPFE, Folltropin; Vetrepharm, Canada) for superovulation in buffaloes. In addition the effect of the day of the estrous cycle on which the superovulatory treatment was started, and the use of exogenous gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRR, Fertagyl; Inter-vet,Holland) were studied. The estrous cycles of 83 buffaloes were synchronized with prostaglandin. A functional corpus luteum was palpated in only 73 animals one day before the start Folltropin was used in decreasing of the superovulatory treatment. intramuscular doses b.i.d. over a 4-day period in eight different regimens. Protocol I (n - 8) 9.0 mg (PPFE) starting on day 9 to 12 of the estrous cycle; Protocol II (n - 10) 18.0 mg PPFE starting on day 9 to 12; Protocol I11 (n = 9) 18.0 mg PPFE starting on day 13 to 15; Protocol IV (n - 9) 21.6 mg PPFE starting on day 9 to 12; ProtocolV (n = 9) 21.6 mg PPFE starting on day 9 and 12, plus GnRH at the onset of estrus; Protocol VI (n - 10) 25.2 mg PPFE on day 9 to 12; Protocol VII (n - 9) 28.8 mg on day 9 to 12; Protocol VIII (n = 9) 36.0 mg on day 9 The greatest mean ovulation rate (5.3) was obtained with to 12. Protocol VI, which was higher than that of Protocol VIII (K j 4.41, Protocol VI (E - 4.2), Protocol III (% - 4.0) and the other protocols. The highest mean number of embryos (5 = 3.7) was recovered with Protocol III, whereas the highest nnmber of transferable embryos (3 2.2) was recovered with Protocol V. The use of GnRH (Protocol V> or starting PPFE treatment on day 13 to 15 of the estrous cycle did not improve the ovulation rate. Forty-one embryos were transferred to 35 synchronous recipients, of which 9 became pregnant. Fifty-nine embryos were frozen, of which 12 were thawed, of which in turn 9 were Three of the recipients. latter transferred to 8 synchronous recipients were diagnosed pregnant as a result of the transfer.
