Myson P u m p s secures major contracts with British Gas Services
British Gas Services has awarded two contracts for the supply of domestic circulators to Myson Pumps, the country's largest British-owned d o m e s t i c circulator business. The contracts could involve Myson P u m p s supplying in excess of half a million u n i t s to British Gas Services via the merchant distribution channel a n d British Gas Services' National Parts Centre in Leicester, over the n e x t three years. In a progressive move by British Gas Services, which has previously limited the d u r a t i o n of such contracts to j u s t one year, the contracts for the National Parts Centre will r u n for two years, a n d the central heating i n s t a l l a t i o n contract via the merchants, for three years, taking the a g r e e m e n t into the n e x t century. Myson P u m p s had previously been one of several m a j o r suppliers of circulators to British Gas Services, supplying a significant p o r t i o n of the company's total requirements. One of the m a j o r reasons for the British Gas Services' decision to award these m a j o r contracts to Myson P u m p s was the company's willingness a n d ability to m a n u f a c t u r e a circulator exactly to British Gas Services' requirements. British Gas Services Head of Supplies, Dave Kendle, commented: "Although price was a factor in our decision, we were greatly influenced by Myson's ability to work closely with our t e c h n i c a l t e a m to p r o v i d e a p r o d u c t suited to o u r specific needs a n d their c o m m i t m e n t to a n ongoing p a r t n e r s h i p Y Rigorous quality a u d i t s of all p o t e n t i a l m a n u f a c t u r e r s were c o n d u c t e d by British Gas Services in advance of the contract being awarded, to confirm the quality a n d reliability of product selection, a n d of the whole m a n u f a c t u r i n g process.

The contracts coincide with significant additional investm e n t in p r o d u c t i o n technology at Myson P u m p s ' King's Lynn m a n u f a c t u r i n g plant, which will enable the c o m p a n y to service the British Gas Services contracts w i t h o u t c o m p r o m i s i n g its existing service to the m e r c h a n t sector.

The Weir Group has p u r c h a s e d PSL I n t e r n a t i o n a l , a privately-
owned North Lincolnshire specialist repairer a n d m a i n t a i n e r of r o t a t i n g machinery, for a n undisclosed sum. The acquisition will strengthen the activities of the group's e n g i n e e r i n g services division. PSL, which employs 45 people at B a r t o n - o n - H u m b e r close to the H u m b e r Bridge, h a d a t u r n o v e r of £ 3 m last year. Peter Syme, m a n a g i n g director of Weir E n g i n e e r i n g Services, of which PSL will become an a u t o n o m o u s business, said: "The acquisition fits into our s t r a t e g y of d e v e l o p i n g a n d growing our involvement in the b r o a d e r t u r b o - m a c h i n e r y repair market.The two businesses are very c o m p l e m e n t a r y a n d offer t r e m e n d o u s o p p o r t u n i t i e s to e x t e n d the range of services available to both our c u s t o m e r basesY PSL specialises in the repair a n d r e f u r b i s h m e n t of s t e a m turbines, centrifugal a n d recip r o c a t i n g compressors a n d it t a r g e t s some of Weir's m a i n markets, such as oil a n d gas, power, exploration, extraction, process a n d t r a n s m i s s i o n .
